'It don't mean a thing,
If it ain't got that swing.'
"SOPHISTICATED LADIES" is a treasure trove of
Duke Ellington’s musical riches that won two Tony
Awards, brought fame to Gregory Hines and is still
one of the greatest  vehicles for tap, song and The
    Duke’s sophisticated jazz arrangements.

"SOPHISTICATED LADIES" is a glorious re-creation
of the Duke's big band sound, featuring his most
famous numbers from the infamous Speak Easy
era of the Cotton Club, the Harlem Renaissance,
art deco and high society, including:
"It Don't Mean a Thing, If It Ain't Got That Swing,"
"Take the 'A' Train," "Satin Doll" and the haunting
    "In a Sentimental Mood."

Songs are accompanied by a jazz band led by
Darius Frowner with dance numbers performed by
top New York tap dancers and produced by Irving
Street Rep, who brought their production of "AIN’T
MISBEHAVIN’" to this area last season.  Irving
Street Rep’s production infuses the show with a
swanky, 1940's style and demonstrates that
Ellington’s music still really 'swings' today.
