Product description

This is a rare souvenir program from the one-week, National Tour engagement of the MAE WEST play "SEXTET" (originally titled "Sextette") at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio beginning August 1st, 1961. (The production opened July 7th, 1961 at the Edgewater Beach Playhouse in Chicago and followed with a tour of the country, but failed to arrive in New York.) ..... The play starred MAE WEST (in her final stage production) and featured FRANCIS BETHENCOURT, JACK LaRUE, BRAD OLSON, GEORGE SALISBURY, THAD PRESCOTT, MARCI CAMPBELL, KATHLEEN LEE, EUGENE MOON, HAZEL JONES, BRUCE ADAMS, BOB ANTHONY, LARRY ELSTUN, PAUL NOVAK, MICHAEL FOX, KIT MARSHAL, GARY TOMARKIN, JUDSON CLEMENTS and ROY SHAVER ..... Side Note: "SEXTETTE" was the final play for screen legend MAE WEST and also the title of her last film (1978). One of her co-stars, Australian actor ALAN MARSHAL, suffered a heart attack on stage in the second week of performances at the Edgewater Beach Playhouse in Chicago and died on July 13th, 1961. Performances resumed the following week with FRANCIS BETHENCOURT taking over for Marshal and the show's title slightly revised as "Sextet" ..... CREDITS: Book by MAE WEST based on a story idea by CHARLOTTE FRANCIS; Sets designed by LEO B. MEYER; Directed by AARON FRANKEL; Produced by JOHN KENLEY ..... DETAILS: The oversized eight page program measures 8 1/2" X 11" inches and includes full production credits, list of scenes and photos and bios of each of the leading actors ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) The program is heavily creased, there is light staining from moisture and the start of splits at both the top and bottom seam. Despite these flaws, this rare program will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
