|artistic director, Marina Medvetskay¬a ~ prima ballerina
dancer chamber ballet company that, since its founding in
1996, has performed to acclaim throughout Russia, the
states of the former Soviet Union, and Scandinavia. The
troupe, which made its U.S. debut tour during the 2001-
2002 season, has returned each year since then performing
annually in about 20 North American cities.
Under the artistic direction of prima ballerina, Marina
Medvetskay¬a, the company offers a Classical Ballet Gala
program that may include such groups works as
"Passione," the Pas de Trois from Petipa's "Pakhita," and
the famous Vainonen version of the final waltz from "The
Nutcrack¬er." Familiar pas de deux include the White
Swan Adagio from "Swan Lake," "The Flames of Paris,"
and the spectacular "Le Corsaire." A highlight of a recent
tour was the premiere of Peggy Willis’s new ballet,
“Beethoven: A Classical Inspiration,” choreographed for
the entire company.
The company's founder and director, Marina
Medvetskaya, is a disciple of the legendary premier
danseur and choreographer, Vakhtang Chaboukiani. She
is the former Prima Ballerina of the Tbilisi State
Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, where she danced all
the leading roles in the classical and contemporary ballet
repertoire, as well as working with Alexander Plesetsky
and the Bolshoi’s Mikhail Lavrovsky.
